Numerical study of three-dimensional instabilities in a hydrodynamic model of Czochralski growth
A computational approach to the study of three-dimensional instabilities of flows in a Czochralski crucible is proposed. The flow is driven by buoyancy, thermocapillarity and rotation of the crystal and the crucible. The thermal boundary conditions account for the prescribed temperatures or heat flux, as well as convective and radiative heating or cooling of the boundaries. The numerical approa...
متن کاملHydrodynamic instabilities in ferronematics.
In the hydrodynamic description of ferronematics there are various dynamic magnetic-field effects, linear in the field strength, that are negligible in usual nematics, but can play a role in ferronematics. Here, we investigate theoretically the influence of these new terms on the thermal convection (Rayleigh-Bénard) and the viscous fingering (Saffman-Taylor) instability in ferronematics in the ...
متن کاملOn three dimensional stellar manifolds
It is well known that a three dimensional (closed, connected and compact) manifold is obtained by identifying boundary faces from a stellar ball a ⋆ S. The study of S/ ∼, two dimensional stellar sphere S with 2-simplexes identified in pairs leads us to the following conclusion: either a three dimensional manifold is homeomorphic to a sphere or to a stellar ball a⋆S with its boundary 2-simplexes...
متن کاملLong-wavelength instabilities of three-dimensional patterns.
Long-wavelength instabilities of steady patterns, spatially periodic in three dimensions, are studied. All potentially stable patterns with the symmetries of the simple-, face-centered- and body-centered-cubic lattices are considered. The results generalize the well-known Eckhaus, zigzag, and skew-varicose instabilities to three-dimensional patterns and are applied to two-species reaction-diffu...
متن کاملInstabilities of a three-dimensional localized spot.
We investigate the behavior of localized spots in three spatial dimensions in a model two-variable system describing the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction in water-in-oil microemulsion. We find three types of instabilities: splitting of a single spot (i) into two spots, (ii) into a torus, and (iii) into an unstable shell that splits almost immediately to six or eight new spots.
